Hey, hey, hey! Welcome to Fit and Fabulous with me, Dr. Orlena. I hope that you are feeling amazing today. Here's the thing, it's just me today, having had so many guests it feels a bit strange going back to just me chatting by myself. Today I want to talk a little bit about failure and how failure impacts our life.

Specifically thinking about your journey to healthy, amazing you. But obviously, we can look at the bigger picture and think about how failure impacts us in different areas of our life. And, where you want to get to. A vibrant, happy life. Let's just take a moment to think about where do you want to get to.

in terms of your health and your wellness. This is what I talk about all the time. Where you want to get to is having a healthy lifestyle that supports your weight, your wellness goals, that you want to be enjoying it and it is just something that you do. Now, a big part of having a healthy lifestyle is having those healthy habits.

Now, Healthy habits are amazing because you just start doing all of this stuff without thinking about it. The problem with the healthy habits is you don't notice. You don't notice they're there. I was cycling back from swimming the other day after my kids were kicking off, realizing how much swimming really impacts my life.

It really helps me deal with stress such that I don't even notice it anymore. This is just my total normal state of affairs. I eat healthily, I do lots of stress minimising things that I don't even think about. I don't think, oh my goodness, I have to go swimming so that I can reduce my stress. I just go swimming because I enjoy it.

I've just been talking to some of my clients, and one of them was saying, I've got to this stage where I am happy eating food in a social situation that I can say no to food in a social situation. I don't have to eat that food. automatically just because it is offered to me and I was saying that is an amazing win because it's a habit now and you just keep doing it and you keep doing it and you keep doing it and you don't notice that it is a habit you don't notice it's there so when I'd asked her her wins she didn't mention this why because it's a habit and we just disregard our habit And that's where you want to get to in terms of healthy living, so that you have a vibrant life and you can do all the amazing things.

But, now there's a big but, because we set ourselves these goals. We want to do this. We want to do that. We want to do this. We want to lose weight. I want to get into my skinny jeans. What happens is, you don't get to your goal. You end up feeling like a failure. One of the things I really wanted to go through is, like, what happens when you get stuck in failure?

This is where I see a lot of people are, is you feel like, I've tried this so many times before, I've done this, I've done this, it didn't work, I've tried something else, it didn't work. I've got to this stage where I just feel, nothing works. Then, if nothing works, why should I bother doing anything else?

Because it's almost like I've given up. Now I am reading a really interesting book at the moment that was written ages and ages ago. It was like written in the 60s or something like that. It is called, let me just check, it is called Psycho Cybernetics. Now I love all things like this. It's all about psychology and our subconscious brains.

But in it, he talks about what he calls the picture of failure. Yeah. Now. He calls these failure mechanisms, and they're essentially emotions that are related to failure. I'm going to read them out, and they have the acronym FAILURE to make it nice and easy. First one, frustration, hopelessness, futility.

Hands up who's ever felt that ever in their lives? Of course we have. I'm just going to read through them first, and then we'll come back and think about some of them individually. So A, aggressiveness. I, insecurity. L, Loneliness U, Uncertainty, I want to come back to this one, R, Resentment and E, Emptiness.

That's frustration, aggressiveness, insecurity, loneliness, uncertainty, resentment and emptiness. Now one of the issues with all of these emotions is they are totally normal responses. Being frustrated when you don't reach your goal is a normal response. But actually when you think about it, you learn very young.

Children scream and cry when they are frustrated. Mum steps in and helps them. And that is a normal trait. However, we need to get past that, and we need to get past that frustration. We need to be able to manage that frustration so that we can move into action. And it's the same with aggressiveness.

Aggressiveness is another trait which is, you know, something hasn't quite gone right, so I'm going to be aggressive. Yeah, but you need to learn to get beyond that. Now, one of the things I really wanted to think about was uncertainty because, why do I want to talk about uncertainty? It's very difficult when you are feeling in this state of uncertainty.

Frustration, and overwhelm, and things don't feel right. I really want this goal, I want to get there, but how do I get there? And perhaps I want to do this thing, and I want to do this thing, and I want to do this thing. But I'm uncertain of my next path. What am I going to do? Nothing. Because that's the easiest thing to do.

I'm not going to make any changes. Because I'm uncertain whether this thing is going to work or not. The problem with that is it kind of backs you into another corner and you don't make changes. None of us are perfect. When you're feeling uncertain, it's almost like you say to yourself, Yeah, I have to be perfect.

I have to make all of the decisions perfectly. I can't ever make a wrong decision. Now, I am talking to you off the back of having made a few disastrous decisions in my business recently. I don't want to go into details, but if I could wind back to this time, last October, I would have made a couple of decisions very, very differently.

They cost me a lot of money, and they cost me a lot of time, and they, I went through all of these, all of these emotions. Definitely resentment, definitely frustration. Definitely insecurity. It left me feeling like, Oh my goodness, can't I make decisions? That's ridiculous. I was so sure when I made these decisions that they were good decisions.

But, I have learnt to let go of my frustration and my resentment and to forgive myself and go, Do you know what? Actually, part of moving forwards is to sometimes make a wrong decision. Ideally, we don't want to make wrong decisions, particularly costly ones. But, that's okay. I can still go back and make different decisions.

I can still move forwards, I should say, and make different decisions. We don't always make the perfect decision. Being in that place of uncertainty is a difficult place to be because we just want to know the answer. We want a guarantee. But, there are no guarantees in life. There really aren't. One thing I always say to people when they talk to me about their health and wellness is.

There is only one person who can fix this. Yes, you can get help, and you can get support, and you can get guidance, but nobody can do this for you. You are the only person who can lead your most healthy life so that you can be vibrant and lose weight and do all those things that you want. And you can't even guarantee that you're gonna have perfect health.

You can increase your chances of having perfect health and actually if you lead a healthy lifestyle they say on average you gain an extra 10 years of life but that's on average that's not guaranteed that's yeah here's a good chance that you're going to do this statistically yes but there's no it's written in stone I'm afraid my friends there are no guarantees in life so what I'm trying to say to you gently is There is only one person who can make these decisions and, of what to do next.

You're never going to be certain, 100 percent certain, that something is going to work for you. And yet, you still need to move forwards because you're much better off moving forwards than you are staying stuck and doing the things that aren't helping you, that are keeping you where you are. , a little bit of negative and positive, or positive and negative.

I hope that can help you just shift things a little bit. Now, reminder, on June the 18th, so that is on Monday, I am hosting a free workshop which is called How to Lose Weight, Keep it Off, and Lead a Vibrant Life. And I'm super looking forward to this workshop. It is going to be me explaining my system.

I'm happy to go into as much detail as you want. I will give you an overview first, but there will be an opportunity to answer questions afterwards. Sorry, excuse me, ask questions afterwards. If you turn up live, you can chat to me afterwards. If you sign up, if you can't attend live, the live video will be available for 48 hours.

After that video, or during that video, if you're interested, I will tell you how you can work with me. If you're interested in joining my programs, I'll explain the different programs briefly and which one I think is best for, for different people. I'm super excited. I hope to see you there. I will leave the link in the show notes.

How to lose weight, keep it off, and lead a vibrant rest of life. If you feel that you are not already in that place of vibrant life, my friends, you have to make time for this. Even if you walk away with one extra thing that is going to help you get to more vibrant, then it is worth spending the time and the sign up.
