A few years ago I was tired, stressed, grumpy. I had 4 kids under the age of 4.5.
I woke up exhausted every day. With a child jumping on my head. I’d snap at them. The shouting, screaming and stress continued all day.
I found myself getting upset at small things. Cross and frustrated getting the kids into the bath. Cross and frustrated getting them out of the bath.
I was overwhelmed.
This wasn’t how I wanted my life to be.
I remembered my younger self. I wanted to feel full of energy and happy. I wanted to enjoy looking after my beautiful kids. I wanted to love my life.

I thought to myself, "why not?"

Once a week I paid to use the pool whilst they took their class.
Exercising set me on the path to putting myself first. That gave me the space and freedom to take care of my emotional needs.
I created healthy habits and because I was less stressed it was easier to integrate them into our routine.
I found I had enough energy to keep up with my tireless kids, to help them when they were angry and to teach them healthy habits.
Instead of spiralling down the "negative plughole" our lives spiralled upwards as we built more and more positive habits.

Some of the key pieces were:
- Learning self awareness, how to become aware of my thoughts and emotions so I didn't get overwhelmed by stress. Tools that I now use every day.
- Simple ways to create healthy foods. I thought we were eating healthily as a family. In reality we were eating a lot of white carbs and not enough veggies. Now I've learnt easy and tasty ways to eat really healthily. And feed my kids too.

Today I’m full of energy, fit and fabulous and live a “life of luxury”. (Which for me includes spending time with my kids and swimming!)
Being full of energy and feeling fabulous means I can show up to be the mum, wife, person I want to be.
I connect with my family in a positive way. We laugh and have fun together. With 4 boisterous kids, life isn’t always easy and perfect, but I now have the energy to deal with those big emotions in a helpful way.
