Type 2 Diabetes is a scary illness.
More and more people now have diabetes (just under 10% of the population compared to around 1% in 1958).
People die of diabetes. (Sadly my uncle died of Diabetes even though he was younger than my mother.)
There are many complications of diabetes (my uncle had his leg amputated a few years before he died.)
Many people live in a "pre diabetic" state when the disease process is starting but they are unaware of it. (Over 1/3 of the US population has "pre diabetes".)
Happily there have been many cases of people REVERSING type 2 diabetes by changing their diet.
